I'm a journalist, an activist and a lover of trails and travel, a New Jersey native who moved to Houston in 2004. I cherish the feeling of carrying just what I need on my back and tenting solo listening to coyotes howl. I'm easily mesmerized by the sound of the wind through the tops of tall pine trees. I planned a 2018 AT thru-hike but cancelled to focus on my dying cat's last days and then the midterm elections. I now have my sights on a 2021 thru-hike, starting shortly after my 60th birthday, coronavirus willing. I just completed my training as a Texas Master Naturalist and I'm enjoying my path toward certification, trying to learn the names and natures of various living things.
