Third Age
Hello from the UK! My name is Avril, blogging as Third Age. I am a harpist, artist, gardener, climate emergency activist and writer. I have spent 10 years gradually “retiring” from paid work. I also have lots of arthritis and breast cancer slowly spreading though my bones. After Childhood and Adulthood and before “Old Age” I am in my Third Age, with time to walk, reflect and be open to the world. I will be walking a trail from spring 2026, which will take me through parts of England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland in the footsteps of pilgrims and harpists, present and past. This journey is called HHH, the Highways of Harps and Holy Wells. My long distance hike will be a kind of rite of passage for me, a time to step aside from routine, be quiet with myself and to notice everything around me. In Lord of the Rings etc Tolkien’s Third Age lasted 3021 years. I won’t get that long and I do not know how long I have got left…but then nobody does!
