Curious what it’s like to go from someone who never hikes to summiting Mt. Everest?

Enter Shailee Basnet.

After growing up with “the secret dream to go out and play” in the face of a culture that discourages women from doing so, Basnet was presented with the opportunity to summit Everest.  She took it, and has never looked back.  Since conquering the tallest mountain on earth, Basnet spearheaded the Seven Summits Women Team, which became the first female team in the world to climb the highest peak in each continent.

Hi there. I really like this podcast. Awesome interview with Shailee. I knew her name and Everest story from back then allready, but didn’t knew about the seven summits and all that jazz.

What’s a thru-hike? Hiking as much miles of the trail as legally possible, within 12 consecutive month. I don’t think that there should really be a debate about this definition.

AT vs PCT. I think the AT is overcrowded, and allthough more strenous you don’t get that much rewards compared to the PCT. The differences in the landscape on the PCT is simply much more interesting.

On the point of gear-switching on the trail, well…. I simply take all the needed gear from start to finish. No sending back and forth of anything. Makes my backpack a little heavier, but I’ll allways have all the needed gear with me and I don’t need to think about the next resupply-box etc.

    Just my 2 cents. Cheers.
