What are The Best Outfitters on the Appalachian Trail [POLL]

Over the course of a half-year backpacking trip, it’s safe to say that a hiker’s gear is going to change.  This is especially true for first-time long-distance backpackers.  You can feel confident about what you’ll need with diligent research and several overnight and weekend treks, but until you’re carrying your life up and down mountains all day every day for weeks, it’s really hard to predict what works for you.

This is exactly why outfitters are so abundant along the Appalachian Trail.  As a hiker’s gear needs change, outfitters are there to help.

But an outfitter is not only measured by its selection, so too matters knowledge, price, accessibility, willingness to hold packages, etc.  And it goes without saying, not all outfitters are created equally.

So- which are the best?

As per usual, I reached out to our Facebook faithful to share their favorite outfitters along or near the AT.  I’ve also included the shops listed in Madison’s excellent Outfitters on the Appalachian Trail article.  Help us figure out which outfitters should not be missed by voting in the poll below (you can vote for up to three).
