3 Tips for Thru-Hiking the CDT From The Real Hiking Viking [Video]

What do you get when you mix a Norse, uncivilized barbarian with an accomplished long-distance backpacker (plus a dash of authenticity)?  Fifteen gold stars if you guessed “A Real Hiking Viking”.

This year, Thomas “Jabba” Gathman, better known by his alter ego, The Real Hiking Viking, will be taking on the Pacific Crest Trail (preceded by the Arizona Trail and part of the Florida Trail) to complete the prestigious Triple Crown.

In 2014, The Hiking Viking completed the Continental Divide Trail.  I caught up Jabba to better understand what it takes to thru-hike the most rugged of the country’s triple crown treks.  His insights are below.  Enjoy.
