1. My face after burying a surface poop. 2. The *second* grossest thing of the day.⁣ ⁣ I came through the Window and down into the valley below Rio Grande Pyramid, high on life y’know, and came across this pair of boxer briefs. Unpictured is the AT LEAST half a roll of TP strewn about the high alpine groundcover, having been soaked by rain and dried out by the sun. It was an absolute mess and it took a long time to pick it all up. Now – accidents happened. You shouldn’t be ashamed bc you’re a grown man who shit his pants — you should be ashamed that you shit your pants and just left them in a wilderness area.⁣ ⁣ A few miles later, after a long downhill stretch, I found an unburied poop with folded TP placed on top of it right near a creek! …….wtf! Here’s the kicker – the soil was so loose here that I was able to dig a legitimately sufficient cat hole with my trekking poles. It took maybe one minute to bury. Super gross, but I did it for @browngirlonthenst and @felicialhermosillo — I know y’all requested video evidence on that trail show ep but… ain’t nobody need to see that. ⁣ ⁣ I was just kinda at a loss! Who does that?! Dig a cathole! 200 feet from water! Bury your damn poop! ⁣ ⁣ #hikethedivide #leavenotrace #leaveitbetter #embracethespace #packitout #surfacepoo #continentaldividetrail #thegroundskeepers #optoutside #actonclimate #plasticsucks

Continental Divide Trail Mexico to Canada 141 days 2600 miles The End. What a journey it’s been. That’s WindWalker taking this pic a few hours ago. He said ‘let me take one of you’ because he likes to be in the background, never taking centre stage. But, I have to say, I don’t know if I’d have done this alone. I got to walk all these hundreds of miles with the human being I love so much. We did not do this alone. This walk was enabled, encouraged and supported by so many human beings along the way. On trail and off. What stands out the most is that we could have easily stayed home. We could’ve easily been entertained in our surrounding mountains. But we chose the road and oh are we grateful for the journey. This wonderful walk, the length of a nation, that has allowed us to return home a little tired and a lot more happy, grateful and fully, completely content. Life is a beautiful adventure. May every single human out there find his or her own, let it take your mind body and spirit, let it put the wind under your wings so you, too, can fly ?????? #movementismedicine #medicinewalk #movingmeditation #healingwalk #cdt #cdt18 #cdt2018 #continentaldividetrail #thruhike #mexicotocanada #newmexico #colorado #wyoming #idaho #montana

Experiencing the fickle whims of the Divide — high point highs and near death lows.⁣ ⁣ After splitting from the CT, I booked it down to Beartown TH and waited just beyond the Weminuche Wilderness boundary for a storm cell to pass. After smelling what I could only guess was ozone and scarfing down snacks, I made my way up toward Hunchback Pass under a clear sky. ⁣ ⁣ When I chose to hike to Wolf Creek Pass — a section that can be summed up as: high elevation exposure –I had promised myself and my partner that I’d err on the side of overcaution when it came to lightning. So when I got about 3/4 mi from the pass and thunderclouds began to unload on Hunchback peak and the valley beyond — right where I was headed — I chose to hold up at treeline.⁣ ⁣ Twenty minutes later I realized I was about to get pinched by 3 different storm cells. I stashed my trekking poles, tent stakes&poles and Deuce o Spades away from me, threw my pack down beneath a stand of tiny trees, sat on it and got ready for a rough ride.⁣ ⁣ The wind revved up, fierce and confused, and the hail began. Lightning burst all around me, thunder rattling my heart around my ribcage. During a brief period of lighter rain I fashioned my footprint into a rain skirt, but I was already soaked, trying to keep the balls of my feet together and heels off the ground while jackhammering involuntarily. ⁣ ⁣ As clear white energy overtook my field of vision, I couldn’t help but feel like the San Juans were taunting me for having the audacity to venture into their heights and depths in monsoon season. ⁣ ⁣ After 2 hours pinned down, I recognized a window, grabbed my jettisoned metals and hustled up over the pass, speaking little gratitude prayers all the way to camp, getting soaked by the willows with every step (aka “going through the carwash”). As I climbed into my tent and the rain returned, it dawned on me that I’d better get used to thunder and lightning. ⁣ #hikethedivide #leavenotrace⁣ #leaveitbetter #embracethespace #lightning #continentaldividetrail #coloradotrail #documentary #optoutside #actonclimate #keepitintheground #plasticsucks

You know, a lot of people complain about the dirt road walking on the CDT. However, I will tell you this: When I first hiked this Trail in 2006 there was an awful lot of bushwhacking! Cross country and poorly marked trail was the norm. I was always grateful to walk on a road because it was easy and I knew I wasn’t going to get lost! Conditions have improved a lot since then, but sometimes I’m still happy to find myself on a dirt road. . . . #CYTC2018 #DreamBigBeCourageous #CDT2018 #continentaldividetrail #bravethecdt #takeahike #withguthook #liveyouradventure #escapetoyourplayground #takelessdomore #getoutstayout #BeTrailReady #womenwhohike #hikertrash #hikelife #thegreatoutdoors #wilderness #takethetrail #keepitwild #thruhiker #zerolimits
