Day 3 – Back on the trail!!!

Day 3 – back on trail !!
at Jay Pass

I am so glad that i am able to continue this journey towards Massachusetts. The plan for the day is to slackpack from Hwy242 to my car on Hwy 58. It is a 7 miles hike. I have done 7 miles before with a full pack so i should be fine.

Walking in mud and streams. All the way…

The forecast called for light rain. Let me tell you, Vermont light rain is NOT what “I” call light rain…

More mud, more streams

After an hour or so i was already on South Gilpin, but thoroughly soaked. The trail was pretty much a brook, unless it was a huge mud puddle.

Nevertheless, i pressed on as i wanted to cross the 3 peaks soon. My time was pretty good (for me anyways) and i was able to descend to the shelter and make it just past lunch time.

Unknown fungus

I rested for about an hour but i was starting to get pretty cold being completely wet and the temperature around 45oF. I wish I had more time to rest but i had to get moving in order to warm up. Not to worry, in synthetic clothing one can stay warm even if wet, you just need to be moving.

After a rather long descent trying not to skid or slip on wet dead leaves over wet rocks, i finally made it to the car. I put the heat on max to warm up and dry my gear for tomorrow.

Cheers
