Day 3 – Onward to Neel Gap
AT miles – 32.15
Today’s mileage – 13.1
Equipment all start fir tge day: Trekking Poles. Without them, I wouldn’t have made it up OR down thst mountain.
Bear bags down much easier than they went up and the grouo was off for a crazy planned day….with Blood Mtn at the end! It coukd be our end.
I’m hiking with a cool crew.
– Karl – the stats guy. He tells us where all of the uphills are with visual representation via the Guthooks app.
– Keith – Carl’s Dad. This 71 year old is awesome. He hike 12 miles days without mudsing s beat.
– Maggie – she’s the one who keeps pushing my pace. Also, she’s the REI resident expert.

Blood Mountain here we come. It was a long tough day of hiking. Hot VERY HOT! The hike up was uo some very tough terrain. However, going down was much more treacherous. Rocks upon rocks upon rocks.

However, I’m so glad it was a sunny day very raining like on Sassafrass Mountain. I never would have made it.
I can easily see,why Blood Mtn is the AT qualifier…LOL. It is easy to see why people quit after this section.
BTW Thank You Drew Wood (Druid) for thr beer after a hard hike. It was Welcomr to Neel Gap.
