Day 4&5 (trail name day!!) Salty Dawg and Glam Girl🐾✨
17.5 miles today. This was following a 20 mile day so our legs were more tired than normal. We thought throughout the day that the hiking was more difficult than the other sections in Georgia. Then come to find out this is the most difficult stretch in Georgia. Being from New England, though it was still enjoyable. In the early afternoon, my dad and I were talking that we haven’t come upon any trail magic yet. About 10 minutes after saying this, we arrived to a gap access road there was Stops (Sir Stops Alot). We both had chicken and dumplings, my dad had two bowls and I had one. It was delicious and well appreciated!! We also grabbed some snacks and cold drinks. We had fresh fruit, clementines, and bananas, and we even took some to go. We expect to see him again as he focuses his trail magic from Greylock Mountain in Massachusetts all the way to Katahdin. This meal was perfect timing just before our lengthy climb up Tray Mountain. Just after sunset, we found a nice dispersed campsite. This set us up for a fairly easy 7 miles into town for our first town day/night. We spent our first town day/night in Hiawassee, Georgia. We did our thru hiking chores. we met our closest thing to a tramily for dinner at a local brewery. We shared many laughs here. My dad first saw the tramily members checking in at the hotel, they were a gap behind us on the trail. They immediately shouted, “Hey, Salty Dawg”!! This was a trail name given to my dad earlier on in the trail, this is when he decided to accept the trail name! Which leads me to how I got my trail name on this day. We were at the brewery and a woman at the table over said she was checking us out, but didn’t think we were thru hikers because I had my nails done and they still looked great. Once we got talking I explained to her that I didn’t have a trail name yet. She said, “You should be Glam Girl.” I immediately loved it and that became my trail name. Now we check on as not only father/daughter, but also Salty Dog and Glam Girl.
