Help HIKE For Mental Health Reach Their 5,000-Mile Goal in October

HIKE for Mental Health is excited to announce #hikeOctober, a month-long virtual hike… as in hike wherever you are and record your miles. Participants can sign up here, and then hike/walk any distance, anywhere, by themselves or with a group at any time in October. The goal is to hike a collective 5,000 miles, and registering is free.

Hikers can also set up a fundraising page to help reach the $25,000 fundraising goal. Every hiker who reaches $100 in donations will receive a quick-dry, wicking HIKE for Mental Health hiking shirt. The hiking campaign is to raise awareness of the challenges of mental illness, fund mental health research and conserve wilderness trails. 100% of the funds raised will go to the mission—no salaries, no overhead cut for the volunteer-driven, self-funding group. More information about the organization and the campaign can be found here. Follow HFMH on Instagram, and their Facebook page for continued updates throughout the campaign.

HIKE for Mental Health (HFMH) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating the stigma of mental health disorders while raising money for research, and promoting the health benefits of being out in nature. If you’ve spent time on a long-distance trail, you might have seen the bright orange shirts proclaiming their wearer an active participant in fundraising and support efforts for HFMH.

HFMH organizes and facilities wilderness hikes, and allows hikers to register their hikes with the organization and fundraise throughout the hike to raise money for their mission causes. 80% of hike donations go towards grants funding scientific research to help treat mental illness and eliminate the stigma surrounding it. The remainder of the funds raised support preservation of wilderness trails.

Nice. I’m going to check this out. I’ve already been doing #HikeWithHeart to make my miles count for something! This might be great for a little Florida Scenic Trail action
