I Have a Trail Name!!

On the way to Stehekin, Travis and I began hiking with two other SOBO hikers, Shane and Salty. Naturally, the idea of trail names is circling and we’re all thinking about it.

On the PCT we’re going over, under and in between blowdown after blowdown and I will not stop talking about the cinnamon rolls in Stehekin. They are what is keeping me going. I’m taking some different paths through the blowdowns as I fit through some better than the men I’m hiking with. At one point I’m going to go under a downed tree and I fall backwards onto my pack. I packed out cherries from the store run I did the day before and at this point I’m sure their squished.

When I finally catch up to the guys, Salty states that they’re all in agreement that I am now Juicy. I explode in laughter that my squished cherries in my pack is the reason for my trail name.

We go through a few more blowdowns and again, I’m last to the group. Each of them says something to me and calls me something different. Juicy, Cinnamon Roll and Wayfinder. We’re all laughing so hard because I now not only have one, but I have three trail names!

Throughout the rest of the day each of my new friends is calling me something different each time that I couldn’t even keep track. Apparently, I need an acronym for my trail name.

At the end of the day we all embraced Juicy as my trail name. So – Hi, I’m Juicy, and I’m glad my trail name has such a goofy story.

Congrats on the trail name. Me and my niece are reading your trail blog as she wants to do the same thing one day. She is only 10 but is all about it. Glad the heat didn’t get to you.

Thank you so so much!! Haha I’m so glad to hear she’s already ready to hike! Ever after it’s years, if she needs anything please have her reach out to me and I’d love to help her. Planning was the most difficult part for me and I’m learning something new everyday. If I can make that part easier for someone else I’d be so happy to. I’ll definitely still have my Instagram account @baloghikes if either of you need any advice!
