Lazy Days

Yesterday I had a short hike into Salisbury, CT where I’m staying at a mini-hostel. A women named Vanessa has a small bunkroom in her home. Yesterday Boomer and I had it to ourselves. I would have liked to hike on today BUT it’s cold and 2″ of rain are predicted ( it’s absolutely pouring now) so I’m taking a zero day. Kind of bored, though all three kids have wished me happy Mother’s Day. Tonight there will be two more guests which will be nice.

The hostess has two dogs about Boomer’s size. They pretty much sniffed, greeted, and are ignoring one another. She also has 2 cats, six-month old-ish tuxedo brothers. One cat gave Boomer the stink eye and so he dares not bother it and they’re coexisting peacefully. The other is terrified of him and has kept hidden.

Two days ago I walked through Falls Village, CT. Named for the falls pictured above. I had a late breakfast at the Toymaker’s Cafe. Wonderful. Two thumbs up. I’d highly recommend it. Especially the two enormous hot steaming mugs of tea.

Steepness. Connecticut seems to specialize in short but steep ascents and descents. (Except for St. John’s Ledges which is a ridiculously steep descent when northbound and not so short.) I had to carry Boomer’s pack down that one. So I hope that my upcoming traverse of Bear Mountain isn’t too awful. I just finished patching a rip my pack suffered when I descended part of St. John’s Ledges on my butt. The ladder in the next photo, however, didn’t phase Boomer for a moment.

Well not much more to report for now. Looks like two more cold wet days ahead then some warmth and perhaps dryness!

And here’s a picture if CT’s version of NY’s lemon squeezer. So easy it didn’t need a blue-blazed “easy” bypass like NY did.

I also descended St. Johns Ledges on my butt! Twice! Got some nice rock rash to prove it. We camped right at the top of them on that nice lookout area and that was first thing in the morning down those rocks. My poor pup’s pack kept sliding over her head! In the summer people go cliff diving off those falls you have pictured, it was raining when we passed them but people were out there.
