One in a million trillium!
Day 19, Rib Lake, 9 miles
Had a cold night last night, low 30’s, but a beautiful morning and good trail. We have a lot of little ups and downs and I’m dragging. We’re both looking forward to getting into town. Even if I’m dragging we are still moving faster than yesterday morning and we soon approach our biggest mountain yet. Moose mountain! Unfortunately no moose in sight and at 1788 feet not much of a mountain either. We search for a summit sign but there is none to be found. I do however spot an amazing mutated trillium. It has a triple bloom and is just mesmerizing.
Heading down we discuss the upcoming weather. Tomorrow is supposed to be our day off but the weather forecast for the day after is atrocious. Rain and 50 degrees. Little Bird suggests finding a shuttle and slackpacking tomorrow and taking the rain day off. This sounds like a good idea but I had really wanted tomorrow off. In the end I get over myself and we agree, let’s try to find a shuttle!
We get to the road and have a 2 mile walk into town or we could hitch. On a whim we stick our thumbs out and the second car stops! Woohoo! We zoom to town and when we mention our hitching plan they know someone who can helps us! I love it when a plan comes together!
