50 inner thoughts on my first 50 miles

*the following is an assortment of my inner thoughts starting from the Mexican/American Border to the end of my first 50 miles on the PCT

Holy crap, Mexico!

Why does Border Patrol keep looking at me like that…

Good Lord the desert is hot.

I think I’m already lost.

I’m definitely lost.

Is it too soon to take a break?

Annndddd I’m sitting.

I’ve never been more thankful for water than this exact second.

I wonder what everyone is up to… oh right no service.

Hey look! A person!

Be my friend.

Oh you’re gonna pass me because you’re in much better shape and you actually know what you’re doing? Yeah that makes sense.

I’m pretty sure that’s poison oak… no wait… maybe THAT’S poison oak… or… damn it I need google.

*As the sun is setting:

I can make it to the camp site if I jog.

Jogging was a terrible idea.

WTF. There’s already a tent here.

Maybe if I just shimmy down the mountain a little….

Found a spot! Now all I have to do is set up my tent at a 40 degree incline in the dark..

Damn it I have to go to the bathroom.

BUT WHAT IF THE OTHER TENT HEARS ME.

F*** it.

Alright, time to make dinner and feed the dog.

I’m too tired to eat this.

Finally time to get some sleep.

WHAT WAS THAT NOISE.

Someone is outside my tent.

This is a bad time to have a dog that’s pretty much a marshmallow on the inside.

I THINK THEY’RE ZIPPING OPEN MY TENT.

Where’s my knife.

I’m just gonna pop out the other side and mace them in the face.

AH-HA! GOT YOU MURDERER/THEIF/ PERSON FROM THE HILLS HAVE EYES!

Annnnddd no one’s there.

Damn you wind, and your tricks.

Thankfully I don’t have crippling anxiety… oh wait…

Looking forward to no sleep for the next 5 months.

*Day 2:

Ugh. The sun.

Alright! Think I got a good two hours in!

Oh nice, all the clothes I laid out to dry are soaking wet. AWESOME.

Time for a hearty breakfast of cliff bars and the rest of my rice from last night. Yum.

Exhaustion has officially taken on a whole new meaning.

Now that my body officially hates me, it’s time to get a move on.

How is it possible that I already have blisters?!

Please God, no rattlesnakes today.

WATTTEERRRR!

Okay, I got this. No excuses.

Feeling pretty badass at this point.

I wonder what trail name people will give Kona and I…

Wow, the desert is breathtaking.

This is pretty f***ing cool.

I’m never looking back.
