61-Year-Old Hiker Found Dead After Missing on Pacific Crest Trail
A 61-year-old man who went missing on the Pacific Crest Trail near Fuller Ridge Trailhead last weekend was found dead in a ravine on Wednesday, authorities confirmed. Chula Vista resident Hantae Kim was discovered near Snow Creek, south of Whitewater, California, adjacent to a dry wash at the bottom of a canyon.
Kim was reported missing last Sunday after he failed to return from a section hike on the PCT during an extreme heat wave of triple-digit temperatures that is sweeping the state. His body was located following an extensive search involving ground and aerial teams.
“The subject was not located (by the helicopter crew); however, search-and-rescue efforts continued daily with the assistance of additional search groups and law enforcement agencies,” Lt. Deirdre Vickers of Riverside County Sheriff’s Office told City News Service.
Authorities reported that there was no evidence of foul play in Kim’s death. The coroner’s office has yet to confirm the exact cause of death.
