Ch. 112 – Big Breakfast & Being Chatty
Okay, if anyone knows me, they know I am a bit of a chatterbox. Today I let that shine through a bit more than usual. I haven’t been around women for a while, so getting to talk girl stuff is a novel experience at this point in trail.
We stayed last night at Jonah Camp in Trout Lake, and the women’s dorm has considerably less traffic than the men’s dorm… but there are still several of us. Thankfully, we’re less stinky than the boys, too. When Boostie finally emerged at noon, he said he slept awfully due to the stench. Plus, he slept next to the entrance and had someone going in and out to the bathroom every twenty minutes. So, for obvious reasons, he slept in and did not feel like socializing for a while.
Frodo caught up to us today, and so I spent the morning chatting with him about the trail conditions. All of his gear was drenched from the rain yesterday, so he laid it out to dry in the gym here. We also discussed how Goat Rocks got snow last night, which is where we’ll be hiking tomorrow… we’ll see how that goes! Some of the hikers made a huge pancake breakfast, so we decided to enjoy some of that. Joker, Frodo, and I did the dishes afterwards so that we could do our part.
Once Boostie was alive and one with the world again, we walked to the general store for snacks and drinks. I’ve decided to try and buy more locally made foods and goods, so I got a local juice and local soda. Both were so refreshing! Boostie jokingly pointed out the travel size deodorant, since I keep complaining about my stinkiness. For weeks, I’ve been ready to end this hike just because of how I smell.
I bought the deodorant.
What? We’ve got one week left if we’re lucky. I don’t mind to carry the tiny deo for a week if it means I get to smell powder fresh while I’m in town!
We had lunch before heading back to Jonah Camp, then played games in the game room while we did laundry. Six of us played Around the World ping pong, which consisted of continuously running around the table and taking turns hitting the ball back and forth. There were only 5 paddles, so one of the guys used a plastic bin. Honestly… he made it work pretty well.
This evening, several of us went to live music at Trout Lake Hall. I had a hard kombucha, which got me tipsy for a bit, but nothing more. At the table, we discussed which of us had dug the most catholes (I believe I had the least), named a weird quirk about ourselves (aphantasia for me ), what percentage of our thoughts make it from our mind to our mouths (I surmised 70%), and weird encounters we’d had with people along the trail (specifically, men).
On the walk back from dinner and music, we all talked about different topics within different little groups amongst ourselves. I talked mostly with Spicy Bite about public transportation in the USA. As soon as we got back to Jonah Camp, we dispersed and went to bed within thirty minutes. We’re all pooped from a long day of hanging out, I suppose!
