Doing what I love, while doing what I love

Hikers need yoga. That’s a given.  And maybe it’s not everyday that someone who teaches yoga for a living hikes the PCT and gets to offer her services to hikers in need.

Last week, in Cascade Locks, for PCT Trail Days, the lucky yoga teacher was me!

It started as a few people who wanted to take advantage of a guided experience; it turned into a class on the grass of 10+ people, as many saw what was going on and jumped in on the free fun.

No better way for NOBOs and SOBOs to come together, stretch, and for Grizzly Gramps to swing by afterwards with beers for anyone willing to partake at 10am on a Saturday morning!

It was one of my best moments, as a teacher, especially.  I was able to do what I love (yoga), while doing what I love (hiking this trek). It does make me miss my yoga crew back home that much more. ?

I’ll try to post a video and more pictures to my IG/FB.

I totally get how fulfilling it was for you to teach a class while on trail. I switched to sleeping on a foam mat from an inflatable pad so that I would always have a good surface for my daily yoga stretches each morning before hitting the AT. I know this really helped me stay flexible and avoid some injuries , at least somewhat. The trail took its toll, but I still benefitted physically and spiritually from my 10-20 minutes on the mat each day.

    Wonderful, J9!
Just one other couple showed up for Pints and Poses last night, I told the young man, “It’s nice to occasionally get to a yoga class where I’m not the only male.” ”
    “I hear you,” said he.
I added, “Another of my dreams is to go to a yoga class where I am not the eldest (at 71) in attendance.”
I will definitely be doing yoga on the trail next year on the AT.
    Blessings,
