Hello, I am Travis a 2017 PCT thru hiker

About Me

I am 38 years old, and am married to my wonderful wife Melony.  We have lived in the Austin area most of our Adult lives.  I have been a BMW technician and shop foreman for many years.    I love rock crawling in my Jeep TJ, that I have spent a massive amount of time modifying.  My hobby has taken me all over with my family and Jeep club wheeling.  Because I wheel, welding and  fabrication are another hobby of mine that I have developed, building my Jeep in my garage at home.  One of my other passions is music.  I enjoy most types, but my real love is with Metal/hard rock.  Mainly a band named Clutch.  When we got married we started backpacking.  Since then we have spent most of our time backpacking in Big Bend.  However we have been all over through the years.

Why Am I hiking the PCT

I don’t know if I could honestly tell you exactly why I am, something inside me keeps telling me to do it.  I have had the notion of going on an epic adventure for a long time, now is that time.  What better place to start than hiking the PCT.  There are multiple facets, the beauty, the isolation, the challenge.  Hiking will give me time to think on where I am going from here. Where I want to change directions in my career, I just have to figure out what I want.

What I hope to get out of the trail

Passion to find a new direction in life and make a career out something I truly enjoy.  Making new friendships on the trail with like minded people.  New confidence after knowing you went hiking roughly 2600 miles.  A lifetime of great memories that I can share with friends and family.  Something that I will always be able to look back on for inspiration the rest of my life.  Time away from the smothering populations of the city.  Build a deeper understanding of myself.  Establish a better understanding of authors/people that have inspired me.
