It’s Getting Real, Folks!

Today is December 29th,  which means I am officially three months away from stepping foot on the Pacific Crest Trail and beginning the longest walk of my life.

The past few months have been a whirlwind of getting a permit, training, booking transportation, obsessing over gear and food, and packing and repacking.

The PCT, a dream born several years ago, once felt so far away. Years, however, have quickly turned into months which will soon turn into days. I have felt a lot of different emotions these last few weeks. Some days I literally cannot wait to step foot on trail and start walking, and other days I feel like I am completely unequipped and out of my mind for even attempting this crazy journey.

Today I feel…ready. Ready to make the trail my home and my family, ready for this journey and this trail to absolutely wreck my life in the best way possible. Early snow and bitter cold days have kept me inside more than I’d like. Winter always brings a restlessness and a deep longing for more movement and for longer, warmer days. My heart and soul literally ache to be sleeping outside under a sky full of stars, to be walking through a forest. With each passing day, the pull of the trail feels stronger. I am ready.
