Next Stop: Mt. Shasta on the Way to Oregon
Here’s the update from Section M, Sierra City to Beldon Town. I’m currently camping out in the gym of the Word of Life Church in Burney after a 24-hour hiking challenge turned into 18, in which I hiked almost 55 miles. The trail is going great and my next stop is Mt. Shasta on my way to exiting California and getting to Oregon.

It’s been great following your progress. Thanks for taking the time.
I do have a couple questions about your gear.
1. Do you have camp shoes?
2. Do you just sleep in hiking clothes or do you have dedicated sleep wear?
3. Waterproof socks? Do you wear them in your shoes until your shoes dry? Do you change in and out of them at water crossings?
Thanks and sorry if you have covered this but I missed it.
Ah good questions. I don’t have camp shoes. I had some dedicated sleeping clothes in the Sierra but they weren’t really necessary. Sleeping in your hiking clothes is fine as long as the trail isnt too wet. I usually take the waterproof socks off for water crossings since I can never tell how deep the water is. If the water gets over the top of the sock then it turns into a cup and you have to walk in slushy socks. I normally use them to keep my feet dry when my shoes are wet but it’s really only necessary in the cold weather I sent them home after weather warmed up.
