Ready or Not
A journey of 2650 miles starts with a single step
In a few days I will take my first step on the PCT. A journey that has been almost a year in the making. Although the gravity of this moment has not quite hit me yet, I think it surely will as soon as my feet hit the dirt.
I’ve been chatting with some fellow hikers online for the last few months. We all plan to start the trail this week. I met them for dinner last night in San Diego and although we were meeting for the first time, they felt like friends already. I am looking forward to meeting more hikers, I think I’ve found my tribe.
I feel a sense of calm as I get ready with everything in my backpack including the first few days of food. Deep down there is still a little bit of anxiety but that is likely excitement mixed with fear!
Maybe it will just feel like another hiking trip and maybe it will feel monumental. Whatever the feelings, I aim to be present in the moment and feel them all.
To quote comedian, Demetri Martin, “Hiking is just walking where it’s okay to pee.”
Again, thanks to all my fierce supporters, family and friends for encouragement and well wishes, you got me here! And now the rest is up to me and these “Happy Feet”.
