The final countdown
Well, with five days to go before our thru-hike begins Leila is in Maine and I’m in Connecticut and we’re finally starting to cross our t’s and dot our i’s, as it were. This week I got a haircut, delivered my fuzzy companion to her vacation digs, made some final repairs, tweaks and changes to my gear, made a tyvek ground sheet for my tent, washed and dried my sleeping bag to return it to full loft, fixed a hole in my tent, and did the kind of life stuff you have to do when you’re preparing to travel for six months. Here are some photos of the preparations. Enough anticipation! I just want to get there.
- Hiker-nerd outfit
- Maps and guidebook pages sent to ten friends along the route so i don’t have to carry the whole set at once.
- Leila stylin with her parasol and kazoo.
- My final gear minus food, water, canister fuel, and the extra gear I’ll pick up at Kennedy Meadows
- Final tent check in the backyard
- Nailbiting at the laundromat while I wash and dry my 20 degree down sleeping bag.
