This is the best hitchhiking sign I’ve made so far. It’s also only the third one I’ve even had the chance to make. Most of the time we’re hitching from a trailhead with nothing more than our thumbs. But this morning all of the things fell apart when the only rental car company in Bishop told us they didn’t have any cars left; and just like that a four hour drive turned into a six hour hitchhiking bonanza! – All to get to Reno, except we’re not going to Reno tonight, we’re going to Dunsmuir. Which means that now that we’re in Reno and can actually get a rental car, we still have a four hour drive and an hour long Lyft to get back to the trailhead. It’s definitely going to be one of our least restful rest days. – I can’t be mad, wonderful things come together and fall apart with hilarious frequency on the trail and the only thing to do is deal with it. If you try and desperately hold onto the plans you’ve made you’ll only hurt yourself. Better to laugh it off and drink a celebration milkshake, being grateful for Julie who lent us the marker and let us crash at her place, being grateful for Ian who is letting us store a bunch of junk at his place while we’re on the trail, and of course being grateful for the four people who gave us rides and good conversation today. Bonus points because nobody even tired to steal my kidney! #PCT #PCT2018 #ThruHike #StarmansNorCalFlip #Sierra #pcting #P3Hikers #PCT1968 #FindYourTrail #hitchhiker
