I normally prefer to hike alone but on the John Muir Trail section of the PCT, I met some irresistibly awesome JMT hikers named Ashley and Bailey who were also heading southbound through the High Sierra. Though we had never met each other before the trail, the three of us were together 24/7 for five days. We bonded over camp fires, laughter, obscenities, life stories, blisters and a deep loathing for oatmeal. We shared our fears, desires, food and gear with each other. Each woman was as goofy, open-minded and supportive as the other and we were all amazed by how quickly we felt “at home” in our little triad. . ? . Yet after just five days of being a super-tight trail family, we summited Mount Whitney together and then said goodbye, each of us returning to our individual lives. . ? . Trail relationships are funny like that. You can get really close to someone after only a couple of days of experiencing this life-changing journey together…but then your paths diverge almost as quickly as they overlapped. It’s a great reminder that, in the great scheme of things, you don’t have much time with the people you love. So love them hard and love them fiercely, because this moment is really all there is. . ? . #pct2018 #jmt2018 #pacificcresttrail #johnmuirtrail #pctig #pctthruhike #pct #mexicotocanada #highsierra #hikecalifornia #thruhike #thruhiker #thruhiking #trekthepct #thetrek #girlswhohike #womenwhohike #womenwhobackpack #womenwhoexplore #sheexplores #girlgetoutside #themightproject #mightyhikers2018 #livewylder #hikeon #hikersofinstagram #unlikelyhikers #hikelife #hikerlife #liveoutdoors

I’ve never been huge into makeup. Still, I wore it. A little mascara, foundation, blush, maybe even some eye shadow. I would get ready for the day, change my outfit a couple times until I looked “ready for the day”. Out here, there’s no makeup, there are the same shorts and shirt with holes, no mirror for me to stress my appearance. I’m sure I’ll wear makeup again, and change my outfit from time to time. But being out here, without those choices and only dirt and sweat to cover my face… I feel the most beautiful I’ve ever felt. ___________________________________________________ #thruhikesyndicate #adventureanywhere #homeiswhereyoustakeit #ospreypacks #darntough #unruletheoutdoors #adventureanywhere #keepitsimple #stayandwander #explore #getoutside #optoutside #keepmoving #liveauthentic #mtnfolk #forceofnature #keepitwild #forgeyourownpath #wildernessculture #headedelsewhere #pct2018 #summit #trail #portraits

And suddenly I was here. After starting the trail last year in May and getting injured after just 600 miles, after recovering and deciding to come back, after starting again at the Mexican border late April, after hiking a total of almost 2300 miles (3700 km) in California I have FINALLY set foot to Oregon. . And oh man, the grass is so much greener in Oregon! This is it! . 1700 miles done, 950 to go! #pct #pacificcresttrail #pct2018 #pcta #pctig #oregon #happymoment #thisisit #weirdtanlines

It’s been almost four months and 3000km on the PCT. Maybe it’s because I just watched the pilot of Parenthood in the Portland airport, but the emotional pumps are PRIMED. SO BUCKLE UP. I walked a really long way. And although I can no longer feel my feet, I’m feeling a whole lot about this trail. The only thing I can think to say is thank-you. Thank-you to all the dirty, smelly hikers who populated this adventure, to all the support from the home front, and to the Pacific Crest Trail Association for keeping that grading at a tight 4% (A likely story cough cough the Belden Climb cough cough). My cup is so freaking full, they wouldn’t let me through security. Time for the next adventure and some good old fashioned doctor learnin’ in Ireland. Bring on the daily showers. #pct #trekthepct #tbt #sierranevada #cryinginanairport
