⁣ Trailing The Mountains Above The Skies⁣ ⁣ Trail Day: 148 – 149 | Miles: 67⁣ Total PCT Miles: 2464⁣ ⁣ Snoqualmie Pass to Skykomish ✅⁣ ⁣ Phew – we really legged it to Skykomish! ??‍♂️⁣ ⁣ First day, we did 32 miles / 51 km., and ⁣ 8000 feet / 2450 altitude meters ?⁣ ⁣ .. and yesterday, we did 35 miles / 56 km., and 9000 feet / 2750 altitude meters ??⁣ ⁣ I feel it today – my body, and especially my feet, aches and wants to rest & relax ?⁣ ⁣ .. “Why did you try to make big miles then?” ?⁣ ⁣ Well, because, we were forewarned about a storm window rolling in Friday to Saturday. To avoid thunderstorms and rough weather, we wanted to make it to Skykomish by Friday night. And succeeded!?⁣ ⁣ We even got to experience some STUNNING views of the Cascades Mountains. ?⁣ ⁣ The inverted clouds made for a pretty cool and dramatic effect: it almost seemed like the rugged were small islands in a white, fluffy ocean. ⛅️??⁣ ⁣ We did the some rain yesterday, but it was nothin’ compared to those people who got hailed on in Southern Washington ? and honestly, I welcomed it a bit … I’ve been yelling at the sun one to many times in the past couple of days ????⁣ ⁣ In Skykomish now, resting up a bit. ⁣ ⁣ Caught a ride last night by a truly awesome local trail angel, called Braveheart, who even let me stay at his house, shower and do laundry. Top nice guy. ??⁣ ⁣ Next stop will be my final town stop on the PCT: Stehekin ??⁣ ⁣ I only have 198 miles left to the border. It’s closing in!! Exciting times ahead.⁣ ⁣ – Biz⁣ ⁣ #pct #pct19 #pct2019 #thruhike #thruhiker #hikertrash

My head has been in the clouds the past few days. After crossing Chinook Pass (an entry road to Mt. Rainier Nat’l Park and popular day hiking spot), we were greeted with marble sized hail, lightning strikes along the ridge line we were on, and a daily record rainfall creating flash floods that not only closed that pass, but washed away sections of the trail just ahead of us. The next two days were in a cold, wet cloud that, while taking away any views of Rainier we would have had, also made hiking Washington’s climb-y terrain much easier… cool temps (no sweating), easier water carries, and more focus on the little things around us. I actually kind of enjoyed it. Today, Sam and I leave Snoqualmie Pass en route to Stevens Pass through the gorgeous Alpine Lakes Wilderness — there better not be a cloud in the sky for this section ?. Oh, and I have ~250 miles until I reach Canada and officially COMPLETE THE PCT!! I’ll be heading back down to Cascade Locks, OR this weekend with PCT hiker-turned-trail angel extraordinaire @_jamielambert_ for the PCT Days festivities, then I’ll be back on trail next week for my final few days before the terminus ??. Fingers crossed my shin splints stay away during this very steep section ??. . Miles Hiked on PCT: 2,393 (90% complete) . #pct #pct2019 #pacificcresttrail #pctclassof2019 #snoqualmiepass
