Pinhoti Trail: It’s not as it seems

Day: 8

Random Thought of The Day:

It’s windy; where did that bag go?

You have another 6 miles to go.

WATER!

Well, that’s beautiful!

Rocks and leaves are supposed to be in nature; Silly, walk over them!

If humans are to rule the world, wouldn’t we be able to crush rocks when we step on them?

How much?

Yesterday’s Goals:

Get water! Go to town and resupply, eat some good food, and then take the rest of the day off or hike some more.

Activities of The Day:

I went to sleep last night thinking I could have an epic sunrise in the morning and get up early to meet a shuttle to town. I woke up and went back to sleep; at nine, I finally decided to get a move on. There was no sunrise for this guy. All I got was a very breezy morning. As I was taking my tent down, the tent thought it would be awesome to fly away! I did not notice until the tent was down that the stuff sack for the tent did blow away! Anyway, I packed up and started walking a little before 10. It was only about 6 miles to the lake. I made it there right around noon.
I set off after that to find I had a water crossing.

Ankle deep water crossing

Around a corner was a lovely waterfall, the first of the trip.

The trips first waterfall

Of course, we had to cross back across the creek to continue!

Second water crossing

After that, I came around the lake. I don’t think it’s that impressive.

The not very impressive lake

Before leaving camp this morning, I canceled my ride to town. I wouldn’t say I liked the feel of it. So when I got cell service again, I called another hostel for a ride and told them I wanted to spend the night. We made plans to meet at Porter’s Gap at 3. I had two hours to hike there. I got to the meet-up spot an hour early and could take my shoes off and stretch. They showed up and started to take me to town, then stated that the hostel was not set up for visitors yet!
OH! I guess I’ll stay at a hotel in town, could you pick me up and take me back out in the morning? Yes, of course. I got dropped off at the hotel with a Wall thing close by. The hotel said they had a room but for an absurd amount of money! Well, I have no way of getting back to the trail, and I need to resupply; the only thing I can do is pay the bill. The shower is hot and refreshing; I didn’t want to get up while lying on the bed, but is it worth it?

I went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner, and it hit the spot! I had two tacos, a burrito, and the weirdest quesadilla I’ve ever had. It was like a taco with bell peppers, onions, and steak. It hit the spot, and now my belly is big and fat again!

I went shopping next, and this was my score.

My food for the next few days

Now I’m all caught up in telling you what is going on in the life of None Given.

What’s Ahead:

Today, I came across maps showing where I have been and what I am walking into. I hope you can make them out; they were behind glass, and the sun was not very helpful.

Where I have been the last few days. I am now at the top right corner

What I am headed into. I am at the bottom left corner.

The upcoming section is the same as what I have been walking through. Ups, ridge walking, downs, back up, and across the ridge sounds fun! Lucky me!

Goals:

To have fun hiking and make the best of everything.
