Scale!

Get a scale!

I bought an El Cheap-o hanging scale at Target a few years ago in the “Travel” department. You could also find one at Amazon.

This little item allows you to hang your loaded pack or luggage and find out exactly how much weight you have in pounds.

Being parsimonious, I did not want to provide a European airline one more penny for weight overage.

This particular scale also has a tape measure.

For your thru-hiking, you may want to invest in one of these and either add or discard anything too heavy.
