The Journey Before the Journey

Well, well, well. My brother and I finally made it to Lordsburg, N.M. I thought I was due for a little update. Tomorrow morning we are catching the CDTC shuttle to the Southern Terminus of the trail. Today is a day for relaxing and prepping for the first section of trail.

Fast Times on the Road

I am looking forward to getting on the trail and slowing down life a bit. The past two weeks have been an absolute nonstop binge of travel, hitting 16 states through it all. We left Mammoth Lakes, Calif., on the 15th and drove directly to our hometown of Front Royal, Va. We spent some time in Virginia to see friends and family. A lot of our time was spent packing up our childhood home as our parents have decided to put it on the market. It was a daunting task to go through everything and decide whether to keep it or trash it. This was aided by the knowledge that we would be living out of our backpacks all summer, which makes most material items seem unnecessary. We also had some trail stuff to take care of that included mailing out a couple of resupplies, mailing ahead non-airplane safe gear, renewing my passport, and finalizing our packs. The preparation is truly never over, it seems.

Yesterday

Yesterday was a long travel day. Between two flights and a three-hour Greyhound bus ride we made it to Lordsburg and our lovely hotel room at the Econo Lodge.

Today

Today we will enjoy our last day as normal people and we will be preparing to set out tomorrow northbound on the CDT.
