Trail Correspondents 2021: SOBOs Apply to Join the Team!

We’re thrilled to announce that we will be bringing back a third season of Trail Correspondents, a podcast dedicated to sharing the highs, lows, and everything in between that comes along with thru-hiking.

Every other week (ish), a select few thru-hikers from the US long trails will give us a glimpse into the nitty-gritty of life on the trail—their emotional state, their gear, their appetite, their community, their bowel movements, their struggles, their joys, and how the journey has reshaped their lives.

Listen to previous Trail Correspondents episodes here.

Expectations

The ideal candidates will be eager and willing to share their stories from the trail.  Correspondents will be expected to turn in audio submissions every other week from their hikes.  Worth noting: At times, this will feel like a job (an unpaid job at that).  Carving out time to record your thoughts when your hiking companions are sleeping, at the buffet, or hanging by the campfire will take commitment.  If you’re on the fence about your level of commitment, we encourage you not to apply.

Your recordings will be distributed through The Trek’s podcast network, and here on The Trek as well.  This is a unique and impactful way to showcase thru-hiking to a huge audience through your eyes!

Season 3 of Trail Correspondents will feature SOBO hikers across the AT, PCT, and CDT.  We have accepted hikers from other trails in the past, but it is rare.  We are primarily interested in those who will be hiking for a minimum of three months during the summer / fall seasons.

The deadline to apply is May 5th, 2021.  The chosen candidates will be notified no later than May 12th, 2021.  Have any more questions?  Ask in the comments below.

    Hi!,

I recently started listening to the Trail Correspondent podcast and was thinking how cool it would be to be a part of that! Then I saw this notice.

I realize that the stated deadline has long past, but the opportunity to be a Trail Correspondent sounds so wonderful I just had to reach out to see if there were any remaining openings. If you might have room for one more A.T. thru-hiker, email me and I’ll submit an application and provide any information you may like.

Either way, keep up the good work. Hope to hear from you.

    Kevin
