Trail Correspondents Editor & Producer

The Trek is looking a skilled audio editor and producer to lead our popular podcast series, Trail Correspondents, into its fifth season.

About Trail Correspondents

Trail Correspondents is The Trek’s podcast series chronicling the raw, emotional, and inspiring journeys of roughly a dozen hikers on America’s most iconic long trails: the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail. This bi-weekly podcast captures the highs, lows, and trail wisdom from the mouths of those walking the walk.

The show runs for approximately 15 episodes, every other week, from late spring to early fall.

The Role

We’re seeking an Editor and Producer who can manage both the technical and creative aspects of the podcast. Story maps from previous years will be provided for inspiration and general direction, but the selected candidate will be the voice, brains, and legs behind the fifth season of the podcast.

  • Manage and organize incoming audio files.
  • Edit episodes for clarity, pacing, and sound quality.
  • Write and record episode intros and outros that frame the theme or story.
  • Craft a cohesive and compelling narrative from the hikers’ audio entries.
  • Collaborate with The Trek’s editorial and marketing teams to ensure timely publishing and promotion.

Qualifications

  • Audio editing experience (e.g., using Adobe Audition, Audacity, Descript, or similar tools).
  • Strong storytelling skills and an editorial sense for crafting engaging narrative arcs.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Long-distance backpacking experience (bonus points if you’ve hiked the AT, PCT, or CDT).
  • Dependable, organized, and self-directed, this is a remote and largely independent role.
    • You have the option to work from The Trek’s studio, if local.

Timeline

  • Production for the next season will begin this winter
  • Expect to produce approximately 15 episodes total for the season.

Location

  • This is a remote job, though can be done from The Trek’s studio if local to Golden, CO

Compensation

  • $4,200 for the full season
