Today – 19.6 *(+0.4 to shelter and
Time – 11.5 hrs
Speed – 1.70mph
Take THAT GSMNP!
Well that wasn’t the plan! But plans are meant to be changed…
I Plan WAS…to have a 13.5 mile day after yesterday’s big miles into the Smokies. We even started late today (7:30am) because of the Plan. We lolly gagged at shelters, had a easy lunch and talked with other hikers.
Rocky Top Tennessee you’ll always be….
What were we thinking? It wasn’t until we were at the Planned Destination that things changed. A senior church group from Knoxville hiking 8 miles from Clingman’s Dome told us about the impending rain for tomorrow. So we decided to press on for another 6.1 miles.
So the Trifecta is….
– 1st 20 mile day
– passed 200 miles
– made it to AT high point (Clingman’s Dome)
Thanks goes out to Joiner for dragging me along…AGAIN. I appreciate the encouragement.
We were unable to secure a hotel for tomorrow because the cell service was very sporadic. I finally got a text out to TeamHiker (aka myWife) and she’s working it for us.
I’m tired and going to bed. Short day tomorrow into Gatliburg for a Nero with 4 miles and a hitchhike…then a hotel with a REAL bed.

Way to go man! Just think, you’re already 1/10 of the way to Katahdin. Only 9 more of those to go and from the sound of it, it just keeps getting better!
