It’s not hard to get out of your comfort zone when you plan on a 17 mile day up and down a few mountains with a fire tower in between. The struggle in the beginning from pack weight, mice, and figuring out the best way to cook ramen has helped me become the hairy hiker I am today! 2 weeks in of course and it feels like you’ve been out here for a month! So that’s why you have to start looking for the little things our here to enjoy. The views are endless and the food is great once you realize peanut butter goes on everything. The bears are hiding away in their dens for now and there have been traces but no firm, fuzzy evidence as of yet. The trail changes you, though, even if you spend only a week out here you’ll come back with a renewed sense of love for nature and a hankering for a cheeseburger. So here I am on the appalachian trail blogging about it hoping it will change your lives in a small way and maybe even inspire you enough to get out here for a weekend or two with your family and friends to discover how great our world really is. To all my Florida natives I say take a drive, climb a mountain! and if you’re really feeling brave dig a cat hole and forego the privy!
