You’re Hiking the PCT? WHY?!?

This is a question I get often. It’s a reasonable question to ask.

I don’t know that my answer is “good enough”. The quick answer is: Because I can.

I am hiking the Pacific Crest Trail because…

  1. I can. I can make arrangements for our “real” lives. I can train physically. I can prepare financially. My kids support me. My friends support me. My work supports me.
  2. I want to experience living outdoors in the elements and seeing the astounding landscapes over the course of 2,650 miles, and 6 of the 7 ecosystems in the USA.
  3. I am the youngest I will ever be. There is no time like the present.
  4. I believe with proper preparation, amazing things are possible if you do the work.
  5. My future self will be empowered. I will feel invincible.
  6. My younger self will be impressed and grateful.
  7. #braggingrights 😜

Over 2 years ago I figured out that if I did hike the PCT, the soonest it could happen would be in 2025. At that moment, it was put into the universe. Since then, many things have come together, both intentionally and naturally. I have made plans, mapped out benchmarks, set deadlines, and made preparations. (This is how I process.) I keep putting one foot in front of the other as if it is going to happen. And things are coming together.

It seems as if this is meant to be. I am supposed to hike the PCT in 2025.

It is scary and will be very hard. But it is also unbelievable, amazing, and an adventure of a lifetime.
