It’s Who You Meet Along the Way…
One of the best parts of the thru hiking the Appalachian Trail is meeting all of the other hikers.
Here are a few of the people I’ve been hiking with thus far. The list is not all inclusive and I wish I had collected more facts about the interesting humans I’ve encountered .
Portage, 21
He drank 7 mugs and 1 to go of raspberry lemonade at Cracker Barrel.
Lucky Duck, 27
He likes kangaroos. A lot.
Butter, 24
Can ride a unicycle.
Ash, 25
The backpack she carried was attacked by a bear out west and Osprey repaired it for her.
Blues Brother, 34
He has only eaten Ramen for dinner since getting on the trail.
Large, 54
He has biked from St. Louis to New Orleans.
Him and his daughters are the only people to have walked every road in Princeton, NJ.
El Dente, 21
He rejected every trail name I tried to give him.
Bolt, 31
Bolt draws shitty dinosaurs.
Spidey, 21
He is going to be a history teacher.
Lumberjack, 34
His height is the same as his birthday (6/6).
Extra Credit, 22
Is going to join Americore after the trail.
Jonah, 26
He can also ride a unicycle. I now know two people who can ride a unicycle. Knows every lyric from every song from the animaniacs.
Doctor Fix-it, 65
He’s been married for 45 years, but it only seems like 50.
When he was 25 he became the high school principle at his old school and fired his math teacher.

Great idea for a post! I love it…..and I agree, the people you meet on the AT is a huge part of the experience!
Good luck!
Mr Mepps
I met Portage at Spaulding Mountain Shelter. He’s probably close to Monson now, as fast as he hiked. Another one of those Nobo’s who wanted to get the hike over with as fast as possible.
Yay, Dr FixIt!! My boyfriend and I met him in Shenandoah, he had amazing stories.
