An intro before I head outro
Hi, I’m Daniel. I’m 35, from Australia.
I was meant to hike the PCT in 2020, but covid stopped that from happening. I remember getting my permit that year, after first learning of the trail in 2014. I was so excited. I lived and breathed the PCT, watching every YouTube video, following all the socials. I couldn’t wait to be apart of it and take off on the epic and fun adventure that it would have been.
This year is a bit different.
It’s cost me alot to be in the position I am now, to be able to do the hike, and I don’t mean financially. I flipped my own world upside down, in the last few years (classic self-saboteur) and have lived in the past way too long. But the biggest wake up call of my life has lead me to a point where all of life’s lessons, I should have been learning along the way, landed on me all at once.
I intend to have the best time, on this hike, and if you follow along I’m sure you will see that. But it is also about sitting with myself for a while. To understand me. To grow. But ultimately it’s about learning to not live in the past, to take in all the present moments and just keep moving towards the best version of myself.
…With all this deepness and uncertainty going on, I almost bailed on the hike. I literally bought my plane ticket, travel insurance, my will and everything else on the 26th of April, to then leave Australia on the 27th to start the hike on the 30th. I’ve done a heap of hiking and traveling in the past, so I’m confident I’ll get it sorted, but I did just level up my spontaneity.
If you got this far, I appreciate you reading what I’ve written. Bring on the happy, the sad, the sun, the rain and the pain.
Thank you.
Dan
