Day 9 — Champex to Trient

Day 9:  Trient, Switzerland (last day in Switzerland)

Miles So Far (approximately):  79 miles (20 or so to go).

Total Trip Elevation:  22,794 feet up, 22,981 feet down total.

Today, we had a 16 kilometer, 2,100 foot hike from Champex up to Alp Bovine at 6,000+ feet and then down to the village of Trient.

Lac (lake) Champex is a beautiful little lake and was the first sight of the morning until we started the climb which also provided impressive Swiss Alp views.  Of course, we stopped at the refuge at Alp Bovine for yummy veggie soup, local cheese, and the best peach tart I have ever eaten.  The lunch and the views certainly were good payoff for the long ascent.

We descended 2,700 feet to the charming village of Trient, which has a prominent pink church in its center.   You can’t miss the views of the church wherever you are in the village.

Tomorrow, we cross Col de Balme back into France.

Thank you for your blog on the TMB. My wife and I are in our mid-70’s and planning (hopefully) to hike the TMB next summer. We have a few questions that you may be able to answer.
How many lbs. did you carry and what brand of backpack?
What month did you do the TMB?
Did you make reservations ahead of arrival and how did you deal with the day the weather in Courmayeur turned stormy and you decided not to continue hiking that day.
    What happened to your schedule?
Did you pay for self guided arrangements or did you plan entirely on your own? Did you leave Val Ferret and go back to Courmayeur because you had planned a day of rest? Then took a bus to Val Ferret?
Did someone recommend Hotel Edelweiss? Were there other Hotels you did like? or Rifugio’s?
Thank you for your very informative Blog! Best Regards, Bill and Rose
