Hikers!! SNP has grown ! It has quadrupled I’ve heard from one report up to 2100 acres. The AT in southern section is closed do not enter here. Please know conditions this year are dry in many places along the AT. Compared to most springs. These dry conditions mixed with hiker season can be a dangerous combination. Many areas are prone as we have scene to forest fires. Keep this in mind as many homes surround the AT as well. Please take care to any who are using stoves, making fires or otherwise. Please extinguish all cigarettes and cigars, fires and stoves properly and ensure not to leave any hot coals ever unattended. Winds can further complicate these conditions. With wildfires going along the AT, please join groups, call ahead and make sure to check conditions with the ATC or local municipalities. Appalachian Trail Class of 2016 (uncensored) forums are a good place to also get some of this information. The forest fires ive seen reported are near Max Patch, Watauga lake SNP and now another around Roan Mountain. This does not mean all are affecting trail conditions but this is is a reminder to be aware and to call and ck ahead.
