New Trail, Same Mindgames

 Coming into Town…

I still underestimate my smell. I still think just because my feet don’t hurt at first, maybe they’ll never hurt again. I still think that because the first days are a dreamy honeymoon that it’s possible I’ll never feel grumpy or down again.

Different Tent, Same Tricks

A Gauntlet

The trail between Republic and Northport has a gauntlet of blowdowns – 22 miles of trail through a burned area with trees to go under, trees to go over, and trees to stare at for awhile as you figure out how the hell to get around them. Pants are ripped, legs scratched and gouged – the works.

In Northport we lose Bug, she’s headed back to her off trail life. We’re happy things are good for her there, but bummed it’s taking her away from our merry band. We do get to hang out with Twig, another thru hiker flip flopping like us and heading East. We get to hang with trail angels Heidi, and Jenifer and Ty and then we’re back on Trail headed East.
