What to expect from my AT Blog

Good Afternoon Everyone,

As I sit here procrastinating my responsibilities as a student on a cold and snowy day in Salt Lake today, I figured I’d give some insight into what to expect from this blog as we approach my start date for the AT.

First, you should know that I will be boarding a plane on April 28th out of Salt Lake to Atlanta where I will be picked up by a fantastic Trail Angel who reached out to be to take me from the Airport to REI to grab the things I can’t bring with me on the plane, then to Amicalola. I’ll be spending the night at the lodge and kicking off my 2,200-mile adventure to Maine on April 29th.

Posting Schedule:

On The Trek

  • Once weekly
    • Signal Permitting and if I can bum some Wifi off businesses in town.

On Youtube: (https://www.youtube.com/@ScottAHatfieldJr)

  • Daily Vlogs
    • They will be delayed for about a week, but I have a ton of other entertaining content to get you by.
    • I recommend any of my Uinta hikes

Content of the Blogs/Vlogs:

  • The Trek

On the Trek, I will be doing a little self-reflection so you can see me grow as an individual. I will be uploading the real raw notes and in a sense journal entries that I will be keeping and jotting down throughout the day. Lastly, the things I learned about myself during the week, the things that are bothering me, and the things that I need to work on.

My idea behind this is to allow you into my mind and experience my ups, my downs, my thoughts, and into my mind to know the real Scott. This isn’t something I haven’t ever allowed anyone to do in my lifetime. So, you’ll be along for the ride. The other idea behind this is to show the real life and thoughts behind the hiker and to give you the nitty gritty and the real, raw, and intimate details of a person attempting a thru-hike.

  • Youtube

Youtube is going to document my day-to-day adventures. You’ll get to put a voice and a face behind the words. You’ll get to join me on 10-15 minute Vlogs and B Roll of the Appalachian Trail. My emotions are never hidden on there, I’ll talk about real things as well that are bothering me, things I experience, and the free soul that I am setting free on this adventure of a lifetime.

Other things to look forward to before I leave:

As I approach the trail in the coming months I plan to post things about what I’m doing to prepare myself. I’ll be posting some things about my shakedown hikes and dialing in my gear. I figured to get into the habit of this self-reflection I would upload the journals as well from those days on trail as I am doing these shakedowns. I am also going to update you with a final gear list and why I changed or adopted new gear. I will also be posting the things that I am looking forward to and the things that I am worried about.

Again, everything will be transparent, raw, and real.

Conclusion:

I hope this is something that you will follow along with! I have already seen a spike in my Subscribers on Youtube and Instagram since joining here at The Trek as a blogger. I appreciate all of you that have already subscribed here and over there.

With exactly 100 Days to go.

I can’t wait to let you into my life, my mind, and my journey!

-Scott

I started on April 28th 1979, it is a propitious date.
As Nick Gelesco ( Michigan Grandad ’79 ) always said after every stop along the way…. “on to Katahdin “.
