Announcing the 2021 Badger Sponsorship: A +$20,000 Gear Giveaway to Benefit the National Scenic Trails

Calling all hikers, backpackers, day adventurers: we need you!

Each year, The Trek lavishes some lucky upcoming thru-hikers with thousands of dollars worth of gear. This year, with the pandemic still throwing us curveballs, we’re switching things up.

What is the 2021 Badger Sponsorship

A massive gear giveaway totaling more than $20,000 worth of prizes!! And, best of all, it’s not just thru-hikers getting in on the fun this year.

Since the inception of this site, we’ve put on a giveaway aimed at helping aspiring thru-hikers complete their missions. At first, the prize package was modest, some stuff sacks, a signed book, and Badger’s phone number, which was in very low demand at the time (source: single women). Fast forward a few years and the prizes had grown to more than $10,000 worth of backpacking goods.

Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic still potentially putting the kibosh on thru-hikers, we’re flipping the script. You still get a chance at great prizes, but more importantly, you also help to raise a boat load of cash for the Partnership for the National Trails System. The PNTS is a 501(c)(3) that connects member not-for-profit trail organizations and Federal agency partners to further the protection, completion, and stewardship of the 30 national scenic and historic trails within the National Trails System.

Put simply, if you love our National Scenic Trails and want a shot at some top-notch backpacking gear, throwing a few bucks (or a lot of bucks) into this year’s Badger Sponsorship is a world-class idea.

How to Enter

Hop on our BetterWorld fundraising page to enter between February 15 and March 1. You can earn one entry for every dollar you donate. Thirteen (13!) lucky entrants will be chosen on March 3 to win one of our prize packages, each valued at ~$1,600!

Please note, you cannot enter to win a single prize package.  Prize packages winners will be assigned at random.  The good news is all of the packages are amazing, it’s like winning the backpacking powerball

High Five's Bio

In 2011, I had 2 months of joblessness and decided to try my hand (foot?) at long-distance hiking. After 49 days and 500 miles, I was sold. I met my future husband two weeks before driving to Springer, and we've spent the intervening years hiking, climbing, kayaking, and adventuring as much as possible. We finished the AT in the fall of 2014, hiking from Katahdin to the VA/TN border and, two days later, our wedding. Immediately after, we hitched a Uhaul to my Honda and moved to Colorado's Western Slope. Six years later, we thru-hiked the Colorado Trail in 2020 and now dream of the PCT, CDT, and beyond. Our fur-kid's name is Jake, and he's famous for giving high fives and puppy kisses.

    I think this is a awesome giveaway,but the pandemic has been hard on us all. My husband lost his job last March and is still unemployed,so we have to watch where and how we spend our money. Good luck with your fundraiser.
