If you don’t usually take the time to read my captions I’d recommend reading this one! Young & old, male & female, 2 legs & 4 legs, Appalachian Trail thru-hiker’s come in all shapes sizes and forms! For a few months I’ve been bumping into these 3, and everyday for the past 4 days I’ve hiked and camped along side of them. From first sight I just knew these people had quite a story to tell…and boy was I right! Our conversations always leave me with my jaw hanging and only the word ‘wow’ coming out. I’ll just share a tidbit of their story. On the left is “White Cap” age 75 and right is “Braids” age 65 and their dog Sittka. I asked them a very typical question out here :” what brought you out here to thru-hike the AT?” It turns out their daughter and husband thru hiked the AT southbound in 2002 and then again in 2014 northbound WITH THEIR 2 CHILDREN AGES 7 & 9 in a mere 5 months!!! Their youngest, a girl is the youngest person to ever summit the Northern terminus of the AT of Mt Katadin!! “You know it’s quite a wild thing having your 7 year old granddaughter call you and say “Grandpa I hiked a 30 mile day today!”” White Cap told me laughing. They also brought their dog Orion on their thru-hike who is Sittka’s brother! So White Cap and Braids felt if their two grandkids could hike the 2200 miles of the AT their was no reason they couldn’t do the same! If theres one thing I’ve learned out here its that there is always time to strike up a conversation with someone you don’t know, you’ll be amazed at some of the lives of the people hiking right next to you! ⋅ ⋅ ⋅ ⋅ #appalachiantrials #appalachiantrail #sonyA7 #sonyimages #sonyalpha #thruhike #thruhiker #hikertrash #at2016 #appalachiantrail2016 #campvibes #rei1440project #optoutside #getoutside #whiteblaze #backpacking #ATfannypackers #vsco #vscocam #NeverStopHiking #backpacking #hiking #hyperlitemountaingear #gossamergear #takelessdomore #facesoftheAT #peopleoftheAT
