Smoke Fills the Skies
As we took a zero in Trout Lake we heard of a fire and trail closures. No!! We were on a schedule to get to the border before my husband had to get back to work. But with the trail closure we have time. So, we decided to go to PCT Days!! The following morning we hitched to Hood River. I think part of the journey is the people you get rides with. We got a ride with a cool couple who were chasing lightning storms to have a ruby get struck by lightning. They dropped us off and we headed to the gear store for some new shoes. After getting some shoes we headed to a brewery for lunch and then hopped on the bus to Cascade Locks.
PCT Days
We arrived at Cascade Locks and pitched our tent on Thunder Island. We walked around the vendor booths and saw so many people we met on trail. It was a fun reunion. That night we went to Thunder Island Brewery where there was a DJ and we had a fun night dancing. The second day of PCT Days the sky grew very smoky. We could not even see the mountains. Ugh! We thought things through. Do we continue north in the smoke, with fire closures or head to the Sierra? For the health of our lungs, we picked the Sierra. So we booked a flight south.
Stay tuned for the Sierra!
