Updates …

I found the Friend’s episode naming protocol too limiting, eg, That Time When …, The One About …, etc..  So, I’m switching to a Big Bang Theory naming protocol, eg, … Hypothesis, … Corollary, … Postulate, … Paradigm, etc.  Simpler.  Less verbose.

On Wednesday (1/17), my feet, legs, and back were in really bad shape.  Several blisters on my left foot simply weren’t healing.  I didn’t realize it at the time — and I conscientiously “looked” for indications, but the blisters negatively impacted my gait … ricocheting upwards, through my joints and muscles.  My support team, ie, my wife — Amanda, found an open urgent care clinic and affordable hotel in Homestead, FL.  I called for a Lyft.  And … that all happened in the last 24 hours.

I know my right leg is slightly shorter than my left leg by 9 mm (3/8″), so I bought a heel wedge to compensate for the difference.  Usually, the small difference isn’t noticable.  You know, day to day.  However, taking 10’s of 1,000’s of steps, day after day after day is a different matter.

Today, I actually needed a couple hours walking around Homestead to shake out the kinks, basically … re-learning how to walk without over-compensating to avoid the painful blisters.  Sounds like BS, but it’s true.

What was the deciding factor “to hit the pause button”?  The buzzards circling overhead — and occasionally landing nearby.  If felt like they were calling dibs on an earlobe or eyelid, etc.

Considering all that, the best thing that’s happened recently, I met Siesta about 12 miles north of Key Largo, ie, 2 miles west of US Route 1, past the S-197 canal lock.

She’s walking from Florida’s western panhandle to Key Largo. She certainly told me where she started, but “I failed Florida maps.”.  We chatted for 20 minutes, then continued down the road.  I hope to see her again some day.
