My Big Three: The Gear to Get Me from Georgia to Maine

As backpackers we are obsessed with gear.  No, really, it’s becoming a serious problem.  We need to know what’s the newest, what’s the lightest, what everyone else is carrying, and we have to have it.  So let’s talk about what I’m bringing, why, and what changes I’ll make to my gear on my upcoming Appalachian Trail thru-hike.

The Gear

 

I will be replacing my Sea to Summit sleeping pad for something substantially lighter.  It’s something that is brand new to the market and incredibly lightweight.  I look forward to doing another review of my big three gear choices for my thru-hike.
