“My 15-year-old son and I finished hiking the Appalachian Trail on Wed., Oct. 24. We started from Springer on Feb. 28, 2017, and hiked to Buena Vista, VA, and flipped to summit Katahdin and then started hiking SOBO… we hiked 1,300 miles into VT 100/Killington, VT, where we had to end our thru attempt because my son got a foot stress fracture. We returned back to the trail in May 2018 and started from Buena Vista, VA, and went NOBO, where we finished the AT at VT 100/Killington, VT. Hiking the trail has been a 30-year dream of mine and while we won’t be able to call ourselves true thru-hikers because we didn’t finish in 12 consecutive months, we came darn close and we are pretty darn proud to now be able to call ourselves 2,000-milers.”

Bloodhound, congratulations on a fantastic achievement! What strength, perseverance and great attitude you had. I summited Springer later (and much colder) than you (11/10/18), finishing up my southern half, with 1000 miles to do up north next year.
Check out thetrek.co/author/ruth-morley. You’re in the post titled “Lost and Found.” I’ll always remember the cold night in a shelter we shared with Kayak and Dottie the lost/found hunting dog. She did make her way back to me at the shelter after escaping you guys on the way back to her owner, who I returned her to at the trailhead a couple of hours later. Too bad! I would have loved to have kept her.
Again, WELL DONE!
