Day 133 – You Cant Spell ‘Zero’ Without New Hampshire

See. (Zew Hompshire) I’m writing this at midnight after the bars in Hanover. Sip would always say ‘Hemingway would write drunk and edit sober,’ so we’re trying that theory out.

I woke up around 8AM, more rested than I probably was in actuality. Hot feet and I got up and walked to the co-op for a food resupply. I needed protein powder, bars, chia seeds, lemonade drink mix, and a few other miscellaneous items. We sat at a picnic table and planned out the rest of our day.

We needed a few cold weather items and West Lebanon, the next town over, had our best chance for those items. We took the bus into town after stopping for free donuts. We went to Sierra, basically a TJ Max for outdoor items. I found some cold weather leggings. They were Spider brand (they were also women’s) but they will get the job done for keeping me warm. They were also a fair deal at $20.

Next door we went to target to look for gloves. The only ones we found were child sized. Luckily 8-14 is a broad age range and we found a couple pairs that fit. Before migrating back to the bus stop, we got Taco Bell which was the best meal of the day believe it or not.

Once back in Hanover we explored a museum on campus (because we are cultured hiker trash). Next was Boba tea. Afterwards we decided hiking was indeed not happening. Rationale for the zero being, this is the last big town we’re going to pass through until we finish (also we’ve earned it). So we went to the movies to see Oppenheimer. Not quite the 70mm IMAX experience we were hoping for but enjoyable nonetheless. *Spoiler alert* The US drops 2 atomic bombs on Japan.

We met up with Neo, Corndog, Groundhog, Toto and a host of other hikers for more pizza at Ramunto’s. There was live music at a nearby bar that we planned on attending. By the time push came to shove, it was only myself and Sunshade who wanted to attend.

Instead of succumbing to peer pressure, we went to the bar to check out the band. It was a band from Connecticut called Canopy. They were a very good and we stayed through their first set until just before midnight. We chatted with the band a little before leaving and heading back to our tents.

Tomorrow we will be hiking for realsies. How far? Time will tell. Looking forward to the mountains and getting back on the trail.

Until then, stow away in my pack for day 134 on the Appalachian Trail

It’s been a blast the whole time. It’s sometimes hard to keep track of everyone but I think he’s only a few days back. Within 100 miles for sure. Thanks for following

He’s still on trail, not too far behind. I’m hiking my own hike these last few states though.

I’m a product of a college town (Chico State) so their whole vibe speaks to me.
