Farewell to Vermont

Riding Out Vermont

Well, I didn’t get to see the best of Vermont, unfortunately. Between rain, overcast skies, and smoke from Canadian wildfires, I didn’t get to see the views that I’d hoped to from the top of Vermont’s highest mountains. Still, I got a couple good shots on the way out.

Day 57 – Inn at Long Trail to Stony Brook shelter (8 Miles)

Day 58 – Stony Brook shelter to Woodstock Vermont (14 miles)

Day 59 –  Taking a zero

Day 60 – Woodstock to Thistle Hill shelter (8 Miles)

Quechee Hot Air Balloon Festival

I didn’t slog too many miles the past few days as I planned to arrive in Woodstock, VT at the time of the nearby Quechee Hot Air Balloon Festival. The famous event has been taking place for 43 years. Alas, the event was largely rained out, although I did get this great picture of the event’s brochure.

Really, it was much better than that. Look at these photos from beautiful Quechee starting with the Grand Canyon of Vermont.

Most importantly, my wonderful wife, Pat, joined me for the event. It was the first time I saw her in several weeks, so no amount of rain could put a damper on my day off.

Final Word From Vermont

Heading out of the state, I saw these beautiful wild lupines. I tried growing this in my garden for years, never successfully.

Finally, remember to always stop and smell the (wild) roses.

Up next, into New Hampshire and the White Mountains.

Thanks for listening.
