It’s Me, Again…
Say What?
In 2023, yeah I know it’s 2023, I attempted a thru hike. I started from Springer on March 2 and on day 66 in Pearisburg, VA, I decided for a couple of reasons to bail on my attempt. I may talk about what happened later, but for now, let’s continue with the introduction.
My name is Robb but I go by Movin’ On when on trail. In 2022, I set in motion an attempt to thru-hike the AT. Plans were made and family and friends told. I watched a ton of YouTube videos and read a few books. Are you going with anyone? Are you scared? Are you taking a gun? Are you crazy? No. No. No. Possibly. I was in Boy Scouts a hundred years ago and had heard of the trail although it was long forgotten about until my wife casually asked our sons and myself if any of us would hike with her if she started hiking. I was enthusiastic at the prospect, started during some basic research and learned all that I had forgotten. We hit the local REI, bought some gear and were prepared to do some section hikes.
Sometimes You Just Move On
While on trail you are often asked why you are out here. There are many reasons given. I have mine. It turns out I was going to be section hiking alone and a wild thought crossed my mind. Thru-hike. My things were now in storage, I was renting and the time is now. I chose March 2, 2023, as my start date and hit the trail on time. As I mentioned earlier, I had to bail after 636 miles, and because I did not want to section hike, or LASH in the typical sense, I am going to LASH as in Long Ass Shakedown Hike and start my 2024 thru-hike on February 12, 2024.
Have a good hike!
