Give Me A Pizza That

In my previous life of waitress/ professional time-waster I had a proper appetite. I even won an eating contest against my friend Tyler once. But living in the woods seems to have taken my talent and turned it into something monstrous. At night my dreams are wetted with pizza grease and runny egg yolks. During the day, even when I try to control my thoughts, any miniscule thing can bring food to the brain.
An example: Ooh, that’s an interesting looking pinecone. Hmm reminds me of when I found those golden pinecones and thought they were really golden. Wasn’t that Easter? Ohh man, remember those massive peanut butter and chocolate eggs grandma used to get us for Easter? Mmmnn. And so it goes on.
Everyone warned me of what a mental battle hiking the A.T. is, but it still came as a shock. I struggle to maintain my focus and mental clarity as bacon cheeseburgers and tiramisu invade the caverns of my brain.
Sadly, the types of food I dream about are things I rarely get to consume these days. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy my camp food. Sometimes the thought of a hot spamen noodle (spam ramen, obviously), is the only thing fueling those last miles. But I very much miss and obsess over the things I can not eat.
In case you are interested, here is my typical days food:
Breakfast: vitamin tablet and b.c. Oats and Chia mush with powdered milk. Lunch: candy bars and the oat mush. Dinner: candy bars and something hot. Usually tuna noodle or spamen.
UPDATE: I am excited about the recent addition of tortillas and Jif’s salted carmel hazelnut spread to my food bag, even though they add considerable weight.
On a final note about food, I don’t mind carrying too much. If you love eating, like I do, you can just eat a little more every time your pack feels heavy and it’s a win-win. After all, everyone says this is the time when you can eat whatever you want and not worry about it.
