Walkie here again! Wow! A repeat guest on Myrt’s blog. I feel so honored.
I’m here to share my favorite things about the trail. I do have similar ones to Myrt like “Shelters”
and “Tent Time”, but I decided to show & tell a few additions.
Vistas
What I wouldn’t give for a good vista. No matter where I travel, it is a must that I seek out an excellent perspective of the land around me. I’ll carve out ample time to climb and embrace a wonderful view. Must be why I love winter hiking. No leaves in the way for perfect sights.
My favorite thus far on the AT has been Preacher’s Rock aka Big Cedar Ledges in Georgia.
Hostels
Before I started the AT, the #1 thing I was excited about was going into town.
Someone asked, “Why don’t you just drive the route instead of hiking it, if that’s the case?”
My reply was honest, “I need to earn it.”
Funny enough, I’ve yet to really explore a trail town except maybe Helen, GA, if you count catching lunch at Hofbrauhaus.
It so happens, my time is mostly spent at the hostel. They all function like small meccas, where outside distractions are not needed. I do look forward to my first trail town exploration day, but it can wait if the hostels are letting the Dr. Pepper run wild and keeping the beer cold.
